PANAMA CITY — Barracuda Beach recently kicked off its second annual Snow Bird Show series with many local artists set to performing during this winter season.
Located at 6628 Thomas Drive in Panama City Beach, Barracuda Beach Bar and Grill's Snow Bird Show features local musicians who perform every Thursday and Friday for the tourists from the north throughout the winter season.
This season, musicians Billy Rader will perform from 4 - 7 p.m on Thursdays and Woody and the Peckers will perform from 2 - 5 p.m. on Fridays. Other artists are booked to perform throughout the winter season, including Cline Street, Kevin Jacobs, and String Theory.
Barracuda Beach features an outdoor tiki deck and indoor dining with a large stage for live entertainment in the main dining room.
Food and drink specials are served daily with featured meals each day, such as homemade sloppy joes, fried pork chops and country-fried steak and gravy. In addition, happy hour specials are offered every day from 3 - 7 p.m. and half-off prices on food and drinks every weekend until March.
Cathy and Ted Lawson opened Barracuda Beach Bar and Grill in August 2020 as a place where both locals and tourists can find entertainment. Originally from Columbus, Ohio, they have always had a plan to have their own business on the beach.
“We saw the dream to make this a great spot for both the locals and tourists,” Cathy Lawson said. “It’s my livelihood to show people a good time and make a fun party entertainer for everybody every day.”
Ted Lawson frequently visited Panama City Beach when he was young and, about 20 years ago, his parents purchased a condo relatively close to the business for their retirement home.
“It’s important to me to be so close to where I grew up and I’ve always wanted to come back to Panama City Beach because I remember the whole area when it was still growing,” Ted Lawson said.
Barracuda Beach hosts other events similar to the winter shows throughout the year. In the past, the bar has welcomed several bands and artists to perform during more popular weeks in Panama City Beach, such as Thunder Beach and Jeep Jam. Last fall, Kentucky band Velcro Pygmies performed at Barracuda as the bike week band during Thunder Beach.
The establishment will always be a work in progress, Cathy Lawson said. There are plans to soon have a new menu, a third floor for private events and bring in more local live music. Ted Lawson said they’ve run many places like Barracuda in the past and they are combining what they know to create the perfect spot in Panama City Beach.
“We just hope everyone remembers Barracuda Beach as a place to visit year after year for music, food, and entertainment and, of course, we want them to come back to see us,” he said.
